Prime finds '96 Temporary exhibition. The main concern of the museum is access and protection of Roman heritage in Aquincum (Old-Buda). Archaeologists of the Museum were concerned with preserving and presenting more than 300 objects from 120 tombs in the past year. Best finds are on display - you can visit these monuments and objects until the end of October.

In the millecentenary year the library had an opportunity to show the one-time Széchényi National Library with its original furniture and interiors. The National Library was founded by Ferenc Széchényi in 1802, who gave his own private collection to the Hungarian People. This event dates the birth of both the National Library and the National Museum. In 1808 the Hungarian Diet decided to plant the National Museum and the National Library in one new building erected for the purpose, opened to public in 1847. The Hungarian National Museum is still there, in the in the center of the city. The National Library moved to the Castle in 1985. The exhibition is on the 8th floor of the Széchényi Library. The exhibition was opened - after a long journey to the USA - in the Museum of Fine Arts, comprising material from the Hungarian National Gallery as well. The drawings presented here were parts of the famous Esterházy-collection bought by the Museum of Fine Arts in 1870. More recently, the Hungarian drawings and paintings were separated into the collection of the Hungarian National Gallery. This is a special occasion when the two parts of the collection can be seen together again. Some real rarities are: drawings of M. Barabás (see the cover picture!), M. Munkácsy, B. Székely and Rudolf von Alt.
