HUNGARIAN – CROATIAN BILATERAL COLLABORATION PROJECT

"Archaeometrical research of lithic raw materials for early Neolithic prehistoric communities with the help of Prompt Gamma Activation Analysis, with special regard to radiolarites and obsidian "

2008-2009

Background, previous co-operation related to the project

Collaboration of Croatian and Hungarian petroarchaeological research was basically initiated in the framework of UNESCO IGCP-442 project (1999-2002), entitled 'Raw materials of the Neolithic/Aeneolithic polished stone artefacts'. This interdisciplinary initiative, lead by D. Hovorka (Slovakia) brought together Central European archaeologists and geologists working on Neolithic stone assemblages. It was followed by mutual visits on the side of both Hungarians and Croatians in informal way to study regional lithic industries and sources as well as museum collections. In course of these meetings the most important directions of future collaboration were formulated. In 2006, Rajna Sosic spent 3 months in the framework of PhD Grant in Hungary, at the Hungarian National Museum and Marcel Buric spent one week at the IKI as part of EU FP 6.
